Noise and air pollution and heat stress are environmental factors that have a major influence on the well-being and health, especially for vulnerable target groups (people older than 65, young children or people with a lower socio-economic status).
VITO produced maps and figures of the spatial variation of noise and air pollution and heat stress in Flanders, as well as the exposure of various target groups.
The results support the evaluation of potential health effects of planned spatial developments and policy. With these kinds of tools policy makers can incorporate health a determinant variable in their decision-making process on the design of the human environment.
