European renewable energy targets are increasing. Flanders needs to translate them into realistic wind energy ambitions but lacked an updated spatial potential assessment.
VITO performed a macro-scale spatial analysis to quantify wind energy potential in Flanders, based on spatial constraints and policy frameworks. VITO deployed its Dynamic Energy Atlas to deliver an objective, GIS-based assessment that strengthens evidence-based energy planning.
The results support policymakers in defining realistic targets and evaluating policy adjustments.
