More and longer heat waves increase the risk of heatstroke, cardiovascular or respiratory disease, as well as the risk of premature death.
Together with UHasselt, VITO mapped heat-related mortality and vulnerability using significant population and environmental characteristics.
Thanks to the interactive online dashboard, the preventive climate-health policy gets insight into priority locations and vulnerable target groups. This allows health professionals to take more targeted actions. The dashboard on heat-related mortality provides insight into the current and future health impacts of heat by municipality and age group.
